The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 was a festival of cricket: a tornado of power-hitting, brilliant bowling and nail-biting finishes that will stay in fans' memories for a long time. Across 55 matches in India and Sri Lanka, records fell almost every day. Here are the T20 match highlights that defined the tournament.
India's Juggernaut: A Symphony of Batting and Bowling Prowess
India were the team of the tournament. Suryakumar Yadav's side won eight of their nine matches and set the tone in the opening game, when the captain made 84 not out against the USA at the Wankhede.
The batting kept getting bigger: 256/4 against Zimbabwe in Chennai, India's highest T20 World Cup total; Sanju Samson's 97 not out off 50 balls to chase 196 against West Indies at Eden Gardens; 253/7 against England in the semi-final; and 255/5 in the final, the highest total ever in a T20 World Cup final.
The bowling matched it. Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy were the joint leading wicket-takers with 14 each, and Bumrah's 4/15 in the final bowled New Zealand out for 159. India won by 96 runs to become the first team with three T20 World Cup titles.
New Zealand's Surge: Power at the Top
New Zealand's openers were the most destructive pair of the tournament. Tim Seifert scored 326 runs and Finn Allen 298, and against the UAE they put on 175 not out. In the first semi-final Allen hit the fastest century in T20 World Cup history, off 33 balls, as New Zealand chased 170 against South Africa in just 12.5 overs.
England's Ruthless Machine: Power-Hitting and Disciplined Bowling
England were brilliant in the Super 8, winning all three games. Captain Harry Brook became the first captain to score a T20 World Cup hundred, against Pakistan, and Will Jacks won four Player of the Match awards, equalling the record for one edition. Their semi-final against India was the match of the tournament: Jacob Bethell's 105 off 48 balls took England within 7 runs of India's 253.
