On September 20, 2007, India faced South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban. With India struggling at 33/3 against a dangerous South African bowling attack, a young Rohit Sharma walked out under immense pressure.
Playing one of the earliest major innings of his international career, Rohit showed the timing, composure and effortless strokeplay that would later make him one of the greatest white-ball batsmen of his generation.
Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 50 from 40 balls and helped India reach 153/5. Alongside MS Dhoni, he played a crucial role in rebuilding the Indian innings. Rohit also contributed in the field with a brilliant direct-hit run-out of Justin Kemp.
India went on to win the match and qualify for the semi-finals before eventually becoming the inaugural T20 World Cup champions.
