Streets empty. Shops closed. Schools and colleges with half-days. An immense crowd against television shops.

Cricket is a sport that runs in almost every Indian's blood. Over the years, India won numerous one-day matches, some of which are carved in people's memories.

Here is a list of all the Indian team wins that have made Indians proud –

  • 1983 World Cup Finals India VS West Indies

This match is probably the most memorable match an Indian can recall. This is the first World Cup trophy that cricket Indian players brought home under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. This match is a golden day for every cricket lover. India won the game against West Indies by 43 runs.

India was asked to bat first against a team that is famed for its bowling techniques. India set a target of 184 runs, and West Indies was quite assured of its win, but then Balwinder Sandhu clean-bowled their batsman Gordon Greenidge. The next two batsmen were only able to achieve a score of 50 runs, leaving behind a score of 57 runs with three wickets down. The West Indies team was all out for 140 runs, and India had their maiden cup in their hands.

  • 2011 World Cup Finals India VS Sri Lanka

India started off to a rough and unsteady start, with both the opening batsmen losing in the first ten overs. But Gautam Gambhir, first in the company of Virat Kohli and later MS Dhoni, was there to save the team and the trophy for India. He got the team back into the game but missed out on three runs to score a century. MS Dhoni continued the game and led India on the road to winning its second World Cup Final Trophy.

The story of this match is quite hard to believe. The Indian flag was flying so high, along with people shouting "jeetega India," that anyone would have mistaken Australia for India. Dravid beat the Australians on their home ground, and that is what makes the match more unforgettable.

  • India VS Pakistan Final, 1985 World Championship of Cricket

The 1985 World Championship was a One Day International match played on 10th March 1985 between India and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. Pakistan got off to a shaky start after deciding to bat first and lost four wickets quickly.

Indian openers Ravi Shastri and Krishnamachari Srikkanth had a wonderful start with a target of 177. Their partnership did most of the work by racking up more than 100 runs. • India VS England 2002 Natwest Finals

Opening to bat first in the match, England set a high target of 326 runs with the help of centuries from Marcus and Nasser. To beat this score, India needed a strong foothold in the game. And Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag brought what was needed to the game.

Their partnership was able to achieve a score of 100 in the first 15 overs, and India was obviously on the right track. But after wicket five fell, everybody lost their hopes.

That is when Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif took matters into their hand and displayed exceptional stroke play that helped India claw their way back into the game. India needed two runs in the final over, and Zaheer Khan knocked a full toss to the covers, and the win was complete.
